President's Message-February 2022

Three steps forward, two steps back.  Two steps forward, one step back.  At least we’re making forward progress.

I’m guessing many of you feel the same way I do.  We were all ready for our Shabbat Dinner and then, poof.  All of the planning up in smoke.  The good news is that we have so many other events planned and we’re moving ahead.  Rather than rescheduling the Shabbat Dinner, since we have another planned for May 6, we’ll just move the Bingo program to then.

Speaking of upcoming events, we have a Dine Out scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 9 at Tuscany Grill, a General Quarterly Membership Meeting and Program on Wednesday, Feb. 23, and our Purim Celebration on Saturday, March 19.  To entice you to come to the meeting on Feb. 23, we will be serving sandwiches and other goodies.  The topic of our program that night will be, “The Features & Future of the new SCA Havurah Website”, a workshop led by our own, Debbie Blonder.   I can assure you that Debbie is very patient.  Please refer to the flyers, which are available in this newsletter, for specifics on each of these events.  We are also pleased to inform you that Assisted Listening Devices will be available at our events.  Reservations for them must be made in advance.  Please check each flyer’s specifics for the details on who to contact since this will vary from event to event.

We are also coming to the part of the year when we update our membership roster.  If you have not yet renewed your $15 membership dues for 2022, please do it now.  Anyone who has not renewed by Feb. 28 will no longer receive communications from us.  If you’re not sure whether you have renewed, you can contact our Havurah Treasurer, Stuart Stern and he can tell you.  He can be reached at sandycook1@aol.com or (702) 463-8177.

Finally, while I know we just began 2022, we must consider 2023 is just around the corner. As Andy Rooney once said, “Life is like a roll of toilet paper, the farther into it you get, the faster it goes.” We need to begin the process of filling our leadership positions for 2023. Please don’t be shy. If you are interested in being considered for a position for 2023, now is the time to let us know. If we know you’re interested, we can help make the transition easier by getting you involved with the right people now.

Be happy, it’s almost Purim!

Alan
