President's Message-December 2021/January 2022

Oh, what a night!  Well, it wasn’t late December, and it wasn’t ’63, but it certainly was a night to remember.  To see people reconnecting and dancing and having a great time, was certainly in order.  Our Events Coordinators, Helene Laefer and Jan Grinel, and their committee certainly know how to put on a show.  We thank them all for their efforts.  The food and latkes were delicious, and the music and the gift baskets added to the success of the evening.  I understand they had fun putting the night together, too.

This wasn’t the only success.  Our Programming Coordinators, Hart Hoffman and Marilyn Horween, together with Marilyn Lerner and their committee pulled off a very successful General Meeting back in November, which featured a program by Havurah members Ary and Anna Mirochnik.  This was followed by our annual Menorah lighting with coffee and doughnuts.  Thank you, Marilyn H., Hart, Marilyn L., Ary, and Anna, and all who made that evening possible.

I particularly want to thank the members of the Events/Programming Committee who are the people behind the scenes.  There are a lot of new Havurah members involved, which I am particularly gratified about.

We have reached the last page on the 2021 calendar and it’s time to secure a new calendar for 2022.  Events planned for the first quarter of the year, include a Shabbat Dinner on Friday, Jan 21, a General Meeting on Wed. Feb. 23, and our Purim Party on Sat., March 19.  Details on the Shabbat Dinner have already been sent out and watch for information on the other events, which will be out soon.

You may have noticed some of our recent e-blasts have been sent through our new website and others have come through Mailchimp.  We are still working with parallel systems until we get things all figured out.  Our Vice President-Elect, Debbie Blonder, who is also our Web Master/E-blaster, has been very hard at work helping the officers and Board navigate through our new website.  I admire her patience and fortitude and thank her for her efforts.  It’s not easy working with a group of seniors, many of whom are technologically challenged.  We will be dedicating our program at our Feb. 23 General Meeting to a presentation, by Debbie about how to navigate our new website.  I trust you will find her presentation informative and understandable.

I again want to thank those “retiring” members of the Board and I look forward to working with the newly elected members.  I know they will continue the good work of the Havurah and bring us to more happy times together.

Have a happy, healthy secular New Year!

Alan
